TikTok Ads URL parameters tracking setup
Enable precise TikTok Ads click tracking by pasting the Metrikia template (mtk_*) into the URL parameters of TikTok Ads Manager.
Why configure?
Without this setup, Metrikia captures the TikTok Ads click (ttclid) but cannot tell which exact ad drove the conversion. With the Metrikia template, every click carries the exact campaign, ad set and ad identifiers, and Metrikia attributes revenue to the right ad automatically.
Prerequisites
- TikTok Ads account connected to Metrikia (/app/integrations)
- Admin access on your TikTok Ads Manager account
Steps
1. Copy the template in Metrikia
- Go to /app/integrations and open the TikTok Ads integration.
- In the Tracking URL parameters section, click Copy.
2. Paste into TikTok Ads
- Log in to ads.tiktok.com and open your ad account.
- Go to Tools > Tracking > URL Parameters.
- Paste the template at account level, then Save.
The template goes into the URL Parameters field, never into the destination URL.
3. Check
Within 24 hours, new TikTok Ads clicks show up in /app/attribution with the exact campaign, ad set and ad. On the integration page, the Compatibility mode banner disappears.
What does the template do?
The template is: mtk_source=tiktok&mtk_campaign=__CAMPAIGN_ID__&mtk_adset=__AID__&mtk_ad=__CID__
- mtk_source=tiktok: the platform, fixed value.
mtk_campaign=__CAMPAIGN_ID__: campaign identifier.mtk_adset=__AID__: ad group identifier (on TikTok,__AID__is the ad group, not the ad).mtk_ad=__CID__: exact ad (creative) identifier. Smart+ campaigns expand__ADID_V2__instead; both are recognised.
Already using UTM parameters?
Keep them. Append the Metrikia template after an "&". Metrikia reads its own parameters (the ones starting with mtk_), the rest stays yours.
Compatibility mode
If your ads still send the ad identifier through the former template (utm_content) or through another tracker's parameter, Metrikia keeps finding the ad. You will then see a Compatibility mode banner on the integration page and a Metrikia tracking template item in data health: attribution works, but the source and channel depend on how your UTMs are named. Paste the Metrikia template to make it reliable.
Common problems
- "Tracking still does not work": the change only applies to new clicks. Older clicks keep their current attribution.
- "I still see the Compatibility mode banner": it is based on the clicks of the last 7 days. It disappears as soon as one click carries the Metrikia template.
- "The template shows up as is in my URLs (with the braces)": the platform did not expand its macros. Make sure the template is pasted in the tracking field named below, not in the destination URL.
