Pinterest Ads URL parameters tracking setup

Enable precise Pinterest Ads click tracking by configuring URL macros in Pinterest Ads Manager.

Why configure ?

Without this setup, Metrikia captures the Pinterest click (epik) but cannot always tell which exact ad drove the conversion. With this setup, every Pinterest click forwards the exact ad ID.

Prerequisites

  • Pinterest Ads account connected to Metrikia (Settings > Integrations > Pinterest Ads)
  • Access that can manage tracking on your Pinterest Ads Manager account

Steps

1. Grab the template in Metrikia

  1. Go to /app/settings?s=integrations
  2. On the Pinterest Ads row, open "Configure URL" (or the "URL parameters" tab)
  3. Click Copy to grab the recommended template

2. Paste in Pinterest Ads Manager

  1. Sign in to ads.pinterest.com
  2. Open your ad account
  3. Go to Tracking > URL parameters (account level or per ad)
  4. Paste the copied template
  5. Save

3. Verify propagation

Within 24h, new Pinterest clicks appear in /app/attribution with the precise ad name.

What does the template do ?

It automatically appends to every click :

  • utm_source=pinterest : traffic source
  • utm_medium=paid_social : paid channel
  • utm_campaign={campaignname} : campaign name
  • utm_content={adid} : exact Pinterest ad ID
  • utm_term={adgroupid} : ad group ID

{adid} is a Pinterest macro : replaced at click time by the real ad ID. Pinterest also auto-appends the epik click parameter.

Common issues

  • "Tracking does not work" : the change applies only to new clicks.
  • "My existing template has macros" : add ours in addition, separated by &.
